I’m excited to say that I started working on a new project this week, though to be fair it’s not quite a new project.
I built a system two years ago but never launched it. I think there are two reasons I didn’t, the first is that I went about it the wrong way. I spent a lot of time and effort building the product and zero effort on marketing or getting the idea out there. When I finally mothballed it I had reasonably decent functionality but no site that I could launch. I’m great at backend, OK at frontend, but I really am not very good at marketing and writing content. This blog is a testament to that.
The other reason I didn’t launch is that I was scared it might succeed and if it did, I wasn’t sure that I’d be able to give it the time it needed. I have a family who depend on me to support them and I can’t just quite my job with no alternative income.
Now I’ve come full circle and I want to try it again, but I’m going to do it differently this time. I’ve already got the landing page, and I’ve started working on some content articles. I will salvage as much as I can from the previous project, but I’m going to rebuild a lot of it. I spent too much time on the first version trying to be clever. This time I plan to keep it lean and build incrementally.
I’m still a bit scared of what will happen if it takes off, but we’ll cross that bridge if we get to it.
I hope to have more to share about this soon!
